At Atman, we train the whole self, so some results you will feel immediately, and some will take longer. You will begin to feel the results of the breathwork and meditation, such as reduced stress and improved energy and mindfulness, after your first class, and those results will only increase over time! By the end of the first two weeks of consistent training, you should be feeling greater skill, freedom, and efficiency in movement, as well as noticeable increases in functional strength. Around two months of consistent training, most people will see notable improvements in body composition, tone, and muscle mass. Sign up today to start seeing results!
Absolutely not. The Atman Foundations classes are entry level, and our trainers can modify workouts to accommodate any level of fitness or movement ability. If you’re dealing with an injury or illness, or don’t feel confident in your ability to participate in a group class, schedule a one on one session with one of our doctors of physical therapy. Sign up now to talk with one of our team and see how you can benefit from Atman!
When first starting we recommend 3 days of class a week, at least one of those a Foundations class. This allows ample recovery time for your body and mind to integrate the movements and ideas you’ll be learning, as well as enough opportunity to build a repertoire of movements used in future classes. Since we offer movement, meditation, and breathwork you can attend more frequently without overtraining. More experienced practitioners should train in all three domains (movement, meditation, breathwork) every day, either with us or at home independently.
We typically start with a warm-up, then offer instruction in whatever the skill or skills of the day are. If you are in a movement or kettlebell class, we then combine multiple skills/exercises into a flow or circuit, with direct feedback from the trainer throughout. We then have a cool-down and a debrief to review what was covered. In meditation and breathwork classes, the instruction period is followed by practice in the new skill/technique, ending with a debrief on what was covered. Our Functional Movement classes typically end with a brief relaxation practice after the cool-down.
At Atman we focus not just on the whole body, we train the whole self. Our robust movement practice, focused on feeling strong and capable in your body, is complimented by breathwork and meditation practices. Movement, meditation, breathwork – all three contribute to your physical, mental, and spiritual health. Add in our rotating seminars on topics such as sleep, psychology, and women’s health, and we are easily Sacramento’s premiere wellness studio. Come in to find out more.
Breathwork is a collection of exercises and techniques aimed at improving control of the respiratory system and modulating your breathing to achieve different physical and mental results. We teach preliminary exercises to establish mastery over respiratory control, as well as more advanced techniques for falling asleep, improving energy athletic performance, reducing stress, culminating in techniques for achieving deep meditative states and non-ordinary states of conciousness.
When you pay out of pocket for therapy there is less waiting to see a therapist, and no insurance company dictating what we can or cannot do. Your plan of care and length of time you’ll need to be in therapy are between you and your therapist – no more seeking re-approval for more therapy sessions! Without insurance or medicare interference we can offer holistic care that treats you as a complete human, rather than treating body parts piecemeal and ignoring the rest. For example: perhaps someone comes with chronic back pain; we can mobilize the spine and offer exercises for core stability, but we can also discuss sleep quality, stress reduction, and all aspects of your lifestyle that are contributing to your maladaptive pain, and then can transition you into group classes where you continue learning how to heal yourself. You can pay session-to-session or sign up for monthly memberships that include a therapy plan.
Yes, Atman is for the whole family. We have a pediatric doctor of physical therapy and host regular kids classes for movement skills and mindfulness. We also offer parent and newborn classes to learn how to encourage a healthy lifestyle and development for you and your new baby. Our modern lifestyles are interrupting many of the activities that kids have done for aeons that create strong, kind, happy people. Kids need less time sitting and looking at screens and more time moving their bodies, exploring their environments, and looking with awe and wonder at the world around them. And they need to do these things in real life, with other real kids. Our movement and mindfulness classes for kids help them explore their own movement abilities and encourage introspection and emotional control, resulting in greater physical health, mental wellbeing, and less behavior issues.
Our functional movement training is focused on the skills and movements our bodies are designed to perform, but often in the modern world are forgotten or ignored. This includes things like: deep squatting, climbing, crawling and moving on the ground, balancing, jumping, rolling, lifting… the list is expansive. As you learn to use your body as it was made to be used, you’ll find joy in movement and will find yourself moving more, moving easier, and feeling great.
